For over 35 years Stanley Haynes has been “The Man” on the starting line at Little River Dragway (formerly Temple Academy Dragway). He’s probably best known for his friendly manner, and doing whatever he can to provide the racers with the best racing surface possible. Always a cool head in the most heated of situations, Stan has a way with the racers that centers around a mutual respect for one another. It was never uncommon for Stan to go out of his way to help both new and old racers whenever they needed it.
Well now our friend needs OUR help. On the 21st of September, Stan was admitted to the hospital and went directly to ICU. He was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and placed on a ventilator. At the time his prognosis was not good. In addition to the pneumonia, the doctors report that he also suffered a heart attack while in the hospital.
It is not certain when he will be leaving the hospital, but after he does get out, he will be in a rehab facility for at least 2 months we are told. Stan was the sole bread winner in the family. In addition to working at the track, he also worked in the machine shop at Big 3 in Temple. With his limited insurance coverage, coupled with the loss of income, and the possibility he may not be able to return to work, the financial burden on this man is going to be tremendous.
We are starting a fundraiser that will be used to help Stan and his family during this difficult time. PLEASE donate whatever you can. A few cents, a few dollars, whatever you can spare will be greatly appreciated. I’m not one to beg, but this is me begging. We have a way you can donate via PayPal, and we are also going to have a fundraiser at the November 7th race at Little River Dragway. Obviously 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Stan.
If you prefer to mail a donation (check or money order), please make the check out to Stanley Haynes, and send it to the following address:
